Those Special People
I sat down tonight to write a blog post about the award that I just won with an illustration I did as a promotional piece for Pulp Studios and just can’t do it. A friend of mine has been in the trenches of a battle I can’t even imagine, a battle that looks as though it’s coming to an end. I’m not going to name him here because I haven’t asked his permission to make a blog post about his family situation. I just received an email from him telling his family and friends that his wife is on the verge of losing a yearlong battle with cancer.
My friend is one of those people who have a way of being that is infectious, respectful, and just overwhelmingly generous and others focused. I’m sad to say I don’t know his wife; as coworkers over the past few years he and I have made a connection but, as life goes, I never had the opportunity to meet her.
I can’t in my darkest dreams imagine what he and his family (they have 2 small girls) are going through right now. I can only pray and hope that a peace that surpasses our understanding in this life will meet them where they are in these last days. So, I’ll be praying, praying, and praying. It’s one of those moments in life where it feels that there is nothing left to do.
Life is incredibly short, a vapour. Love those special people in your life. Love them large. Forgive without reservation. It’s short.
